Regulation No. 679/2014 – Processing of Personal Data – Concept and Examples
A few months ago, the new legislation on personal data protection came into force, specifically Regulation 679/27-Apr-2016 on the protection of individuals concerning the processing of personal data and the free movement of such data, repealing Directive 95/46/EC (General Data Protection Regulation) issued by the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament.
In light of the new rules imposed by this normative act and the considerable sanctions in case of non-compliance (millions or even tens of millions of Euros), extensive discussions are already being held within several companies regarding methods of complying with the legal requirements.
Numerous discussions revolve around what is meant by the concept of “processing personal data.”
Taking into account numerous activity reports from supervisory authorities in the European area, as well as rulings issued by the European Court of Justice of the European Union, we have prepared material aimed at understanding the concept of “processing personal data.”
This material is intended for both companies (in their capacity as personal data controllers) and individuals (in their capacity as data subjects whose data is or may be processed).
